The Society of Automotive Engineers, along with Ford Motor Company, have adopted a new oil filter specification of SAE USCAR-36. All Motorcraft filters produced after January 1, 2017, are aligned with this new specification.

Motorcraft anti-drain back valves, which help prevent dry starts, are made of silicone to provide greater cold/heat resistance (down to -75 and up to +450 degrees F). Location of relief valve in the majority of Ford application filters prevents settled debris from entering and potentially damaging the engine
